Week 5 Waiver Wire
October 5, 2021
Another Week of football is in the books and as usual, we were hit with a few significant injuries. In this edition of My Week 5 Waiver article, I’ll throw out a few players that are producing consistent fantasy numbers and need to be owned. These players are rostered in under 60% of Yahoo leagues. Check it out, and let me know what you think.
QB Trey Lance (31% Rostered)
Jimmy Garopollo left Sunday’s game with a calf injury and Lance came in and played well. (157 yards passing, 2TD, 41 Rushing Yards) With Jimmy G expected to miss some time, it looks like Lance is finally going to get his shot. Lance should be considered an add this week because of his ability to run the ball. If Lance can get going early he can have a huge impact for your fantasy team moving forward.
QB Sam Darnold (37% Rostered)
I get it, you don’t want to put trust in Darnold because of the past. But he continues to put up top 10 fantasy stats every week. Darnold had his third straight 300-yard passing game and he’s rushed for five touchdowns on the year. The Panthers take on the Eagles, Vikings, Giants, and Falcons the next three weeks which should elevate Darnold into the must start conversation
Other Options: Taylor Heinicke (10%)
RB Kenneth Gainwell (29% Rostered)
Gainwell continues to split work with Miles Sanders this year. He only had nine total touches but managed to rack up almost 90 total yards and a touchdown against the Chiefs. Gainwell has been much more efficient with his touches and should continue to see touches in this offence. The Eagles face a Panthers team in Week 5 that just gave up over 240 yards to the Cowboys in Week 4. If you have a roster spot go and get Gainwell in hopes this trend continues.
RB Damien Williams (5% Rostered)
David Montgomery left the game with what appeared to be a serious knee injury. That allowed Williams to take over as the lead back for the Bears. Williams finished the day with 70 total yards and a touchdown and looked good leading the Bears to a victory. In the past, Williams has proven he can be a work horse RB and has put-up strong fantasy numbers. He should be your top waiver add this week with the loss of Montgomery for the year.
Other Options: Michael Carter (51%), Samaje Perine (2%)
WR Emmanuel Sanders (58% Rostered)
Sanders is still available in some leagues and this will be the last chance to get him on your roster. He continues to be a big part of this offence, even in a game where the Bills got off to a huge lead. Sanders caught 5 balls for over 70 yards and has back-to-back games with at least 6 targets and over 70 yards receiving. Next week the Bills face the Chiefs in what should be the highest scoring game of the week, Sanders is a WR3/ Flex play every week.
WR AJ Green (24% Rostered)
Green seems to be rejuvenated in the high-powered passing offence. He caught five of his six targets for over 65 yards and a touchdown on Sunday. This Cardinals offence looks amazing and seems to be putting up a ton of fantasy points. Now is the time get a part of it and the Cardinals face a 49ers team who have given up a ton of yards several times this year to receivers.
WR Davante Parker (38% Rostered)
Parker continues to be the best Dolphins WR even with Brissett behind center. He caught four of his nine targets for almost 80 yards and a touchdown on Sunday. Will Fuller left this game with an injury, so this should open more opportunities for Parker moving forward. The match up against the Bucs in Week 5 is a favourable one so look for another productive game for Parker.
Other Options: Quintez Cephus(16%), Kadarius Toney(3%), Tim Patrick (44%)
TE Tyler Conklin (4% Rostered)
Conklin had a quiet Week 4 game but so did the Vikings as a whole. Although it was a quiet outing for Conklin, he still drew 6 targets and caught 4 balls for 18 yards. This was an odd game for what’s usually a heavy passing Vikings offence. The Vikings will look to get back on track next week against the Detroit Lions making Conklin a TE2 with TE1 upside.
Other Options: Dawson Knox (47%)
